The new Norra Djurgårdsstaden district is being built with a strong focus on sustainability and the environment. The city is planning the area for a sustainable lifestyle with investments in energy-efficient housing, few parking spaces for cars, efficient public transport and good cycling facilities.
Thanks to green roofs and courtyards, the buildings maintain the area’s ecosystem services and contribute to local stormwater management. Energy consumption is half the Stockholm average, and solar panels are planned on some roofs, allowing the buildings to produce some of their own energy.
About 90 tenant-owned apartments will be built in Esplanadhuset, Gårdshusen and Parkhuset. These houses follow the environmental objective “Sustainable energy use“ where energy requirements mean that in newly constructed buildings, energy use should be a maximum of 55 kWh/m2 and year.
